With guidance from experienced mentors and plenty of real teaching practice, you’ll leave this training with your 200-hour certification—and the confidence to step into any studio and share the practice with clarity, purpose, and heart.

Ted Grand

Mindfulness

Ted Grand is one of the co-founders of Modo Yoga. At the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings, he leads the section on mindfulness. Ted feels very strongly that a regular yoga practice can help us become more socially engaged and compassionate. More yoga tends to bring more peace. More peace can help us make better decisions. Better decisions can help create a healthier, more equitable and sustainable world. Ted is a proud father, a trained organic farmer, a Zen Buddhism practitioner, and an environmental/social activist.

Jess Robertson

The Roots of Practice and Deepening Savasana

Jess Robertson is the co-founder of Modo Yoga and teaches The Roots of Practice and Deepening Savasana at Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings. With a background in anatomy, physiology, Buddhism, and anthropology, she brings both depth and playfulness to her teaching. Jess created Modo’s Six Pillars and continues to evolve them in collaboration with the global community. She lives in Montreal with her two kids and finds joy in creativity, nature, and good chocolate.

Anand Ondhia

Posture Workshops

Anand Ondhia leads the posture workshops at the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings. A Modo teacher since 2013, he brings a depth of experience rooted in yoga, osteopathy, martial arts, and mindfulness. Anand teaches Modo, Flow, and Calm classes, and is passionate about helping students and new teachers connect to the practice in safe, therapeutic, and empowering ways. His work blends anatomical knowledge with a deep respect for yoga’s transformative power—always with an eye toward accessibility, connection, and lifelong learning.

Michelle Kelly

Practice Teaching

Michelle Kelly supports trainees in their practice teaching at the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings. A dedicated Modo teacher since 2012, she brings warmth, wisdom, and years of experience mentoring new teachers. With additional training in Flow, Calm, Meditation, and Yoga for Youth, Michelle helps create a supportive space where curiosity and authenticity can thrive. She’s passionate about guiding students to build a strong foundation and step into their voice with clarity and confidence.

VikramJeet Singh

Cultural Sensitivity

VikramJeet Singh teaches about cultural appropriation at the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings, drawing from a deep personal and academic connection to yoga’s roots. Born and raised in India, he completed his Modo training there in 2008 and is also a certified teacher in Ashtanga, Yin, and Ayurveda. A daily Mysore practitioner and co-teacher at the Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Toronto, VikramJeet blends storytelling, philosophy, and lived experience to help students understand the cultural context of yoga. He’s passionate about honoring yoga’s origins and believes every yogi can benefit from connecting more deeply with its roots.

Tash Papachristoforou

Anatomy

Tash is a registered physiotherapist and longtime Modo teacher who leads the anatomy section at the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings. With a background in Vinyasa yoga, clinical mentorship, and teaching anatomy at the post-graduate level, she brings a rich understanding of the body to every training. Tash is passionate about blending science with tradition, helping students explore how movement, breath, and biomechanics work together. Her goal is simple: to make yoga feel good and accessible for every body, and to share the joy and freedom that comes from moving with awareness.

Nicky Poole

History

Nicky Poole brings a deep love of history and tradition to her teaching at the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings. She holds a degree in art history from SOAS University, where she focused on the visual history of yoga and the roots of Hatha Yoga practice. Teaching since 1999, Nicky is also a Birth Doula, reformer Pilates instructor, and specialist in prenatal and postnatal yoga. Originally from New Zealand, she’s taught around the world and now mentors teachers in Toronto, blending science, soul, and cultural context in everything she shares.

Kasia Chmielarz

Teacher Training Facilitator

Kasia facilitates the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings and is also the Teacher Training Development Manager at Modo Yoga International. She completed her Modo Yoga Teacher Training in Montreal in 2014. Since then, her yoga journey has expanded to include the Modo Flow training in 2017, as well as workshops in Power Flow, Yin, and Restorative practices. Kasia’s teaching style emphasizes creativity, growth, and learning, and she is passionate about fostering meaningful connections and a balanced approach to movement. Dedicated to lifelong learning and community engagement, Kasia now brings her passion to MYI.

Vina Sidhu

Teacher Training Facilitator

Vina facilitates the Modo Yoga Teacher Trainings and is also the Teacher Training Communications and Support person at Modo Yoga International. She fell in love with Modo the very first time she took a class in Montreal, thus starting her dream of one day being a Modo Yoga teacher. A humble student for more than 15 years, she finally took the leap and took the Modo Yoga Foundational training in 2020 and her Modo Flow training in 2021. Vina’s dream is to make yoga accessible to everyone, even those of us who can’t touch our toes.

How much is tuition and what does this include?

Tuition for this training is $4,400 CAD.

To attend this training you must be 18 years old (or 16 with parental consent).

You do not require yoga experience in order to sign up for the Modo Yoga Foundational Teacher Training. However, before embarking on the journey to becoming a teacher, we recommend that you participate in many different yoga classes to ensure that the core values of the practice as well as the physical aspects of yoga are in line with your beliefs. Becoming a yoga teacher is a big step, so it’s important that you take this program seriously.

The Modo Yoga Teacher Training consists of 2 parts.

PART 1 — 50 hour e-course called Deepen Your Practice. It covers the following material:

SELF EXPLORATION

PART 2 — a combination of online and in-person training environments. Here you will learn the practical, hands-on skills required to lead group yoga classes. Content includes:  

PRACTICE TEACHING 
  • This is where you actually teach asana classes as a group and get personalized feedback on your teaching. You will cover best practices for language, cues, intention setting, and  class themes.  
POSTURE WORKSHOP 
  • In this lecture series we break down every pose in the Modo  Yoga sequence.  You will gain a deeper understanding of each asana, and explore the anatomy, benefits and, if applicable, it’s origin story in the roots of yoga philosophy.
ANATOMY
  • In this lecture series you will explore how your body moves.  You will practice posture variations and modifications with the intention of observing, from experience, how the poses may physically differ and feel from person to person.  
REAL WORLD TEACHING
  • In this lecture you will learn the more practical components of being a yoga teacher.  We offer tips for teaching in a studio environment, teaching online, and continuing to practice your yoga off-the-mat as you step into the role of Teacher.
A NOTE ABOUT THE TEACHING FACULTY

When you train with Modo, you’ll be learning from a group of industry-leading educators, who make the learning process simple, inspiring and fun. Each faculty member is intelligent, expertly-trained, and passionate, with hundreds of hours of training in their fields of study.

Yes. In order to graduate from the Modo Yoga Teacher Training, and earn your certificate as a Modo Yoga Teacher, you must complete all 50 hours of the e-course and attend all sessions, lectures, and classes during the training.

In order to graduate from the Modo Yoga Foundational Teacher Training and earn your 200- hour yoga teacher certificate, you must complete all 50 hours of the Deepen Your Practice e-course and attend all sessions, lectures, and classes during the in-person or online intensive portion of the training. If you are unable to commit to the schedule at this time, we suggest waiting until another course is available where you can dedicate the full time to the classes and get the most out of teacher training.

Upon completion of the Modo Yoga Foundational Teacher Training, you will meet the necessary requirements to receive your 200 hour yoga certification. Modo Yoga is recognized by the Yoga Alliance, and you will be able to apply for that accreditation upon receiving your certificate from Modo.

Yes. The Modo Yoga Teacher Training is recognized by the Yoga Alliance as a 200-hour teacher training.

As an alumni of the Modo Yoga Foundational Teacher Training, you will have access to additional Modo Yoga trainings to enhance your skills and qualifications and boost your teaching resume. You’ll also have access to free continuing education resources, discounted classes at participating Modo studios, other discounts and perks, and a year of free access to Modo Yoga online!

The completion of the Modo Yoga Teacher Training does not guarantee you a teaching position at your local Modo Yoga Studio.

If you are interested in teaching at your local Modo Yoga Studio, we strongly recommend that you check in with your local studio owner to see if any opportunities are available.

With that being said, we empower trainees throughout the training to create their own teaching opportunities as an independent yoga teacher.
