OUR HISTORY

2004: The Beginning

Modo Yoga was founded as Moksha Yoga in Toronto by Jessica Robertson and Ted Grand, starting with six studios across Canada. The focus was on hot yoga, offering classes in heated rooms set around 100°F (38°C) with high humidity, enhancing flexibility and supporting detoxification in a set yoga sequence.

2005: Franchising in Canada

The Modo Yoga community began to grow, with franchising expanding the brand across Canada. This allowed us to connect with like-minded yoga practitioners and build a strong network.

2008: Expansion into the United States

Our vision extended internationally as we opened our first studios across various U.S. states, bringing the Modo Yoga experience to a broader audience.

2009: 20 Studios Milestone

We celebrated the achievement of opening 20 studios, marking a significant step in our journey.

2010: Introduction of Modo Flow

We developed the Moksha/Modo Flow sequence, a vinyasa-based flow accessible to all levels. This set series of postures blends alignment and flow, offering a dynamic and inclusive practice.

2011: 40 Studios Milestone

The community continued to thrive, reaching 40 studios!

2017: 13th Anniversary and Over 50 Studios

As we celebrated our 13th anniversary, Modo Yoga had grown to over 100 studios worldwide. This year also marked our expansion into Europe with the first studio in Paris, France, and the introduction of new class offerings like Modo Prenatal and Modo Freestyle.

2018: A New Identity

We unified our global presence by rebranding all studios as Modo Yoga, formerly known as Moksha Yoga.

2020: Launch of Modo Online

In response to the growing demand for accessible yoga, we launched Modo Online, providing virtual yoga classes and teacher training programs. Our first online teacher training was a resounding success.

2024: Continued Growth and Innovation

Modo Yoga continues to evolve, offering a variety of yoga styles, workshops, and retreats. Our commitment to community, innovation, and social responsibility remains at the core of everything we do.
