Studio ETiquette

Studio Culture

Our aim is to create a grounding and safe space for all our students in every class we offer. This whole community builds the MYEM experience you love. Help us keep the studio dreamy and review our studio culture and booking policies to best prepare you for your experience.

Community At Our Core

  • Modo Yoga Erin Mills works to build a community of safety, connection and healing.
  • We believe yoga is for every body and do not tolerate discrimination of any kind based on size, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, ability or any other aspects of identity.

First Timers

  • We understand that trying something new can be overwhelming, but we’re here to support you.
  • Start by downloading the Modo Yoga app and set up your account.
  • Plan to arrive early for your first visit so that you can meet your teacher, get oriented with the space, settled in and ask any questions you may have.
  • Check out the important information below to know what to expect when you practice at Modo Yoga. We’re excited to meet you and welcome you into our community!

What You’ll Need

  • A yoga mat
  • A towel for sweaty moments (if you don’t have a “grippy” yoga mat, we recommend laying down a mat towel to prevent you from slipping)
  • Water (available buy for $3)
  • Comfortable clothing for movement
  • Forgot something? No problem, rentals are FREE on your FIRST VISIT for INTRO MONTH students ONLY.

Start & End On Time

  • We work to build a positive experience from start to finish.
  • To establish a safe and grounding practice, there is no late entry allowed for class.
  • Please give yourself enough time to arrive with ease.

Personal Belongings

Footwear

  • For both cleanliness and the nature of our barefoot practice, we kindly ask that you remove your shoes at the entrance.

Clutter-Free Spaces

  • There is only so much space in our practice rooms! Please leave all your belongings in the changerooms.
  • Bring your water bottle, mat, and practice towel into the space. We ask that no other belongings be brought into the practice rooms.

Silent Practice Spaces

  • Our Yoga practice is an opportunity to withdraw from our overstimulated senses and to be present. Please leave your conversations outside of the practice rooms —yes, even whispers count!
  • Take the opportunity to soak up the silence, settle into your meditation, or explore some deep breathing.
  • If you feel like chatting with friends and our team, we’ve got a great lounge space to do so in- with complimentary tea before and after class

Tech Free Zone

We live in a technology-driven world and aim to carve out a small sanctuary away from the noise and speed of daily life. This is a time to unplug and give your nervous system a chance to reset.

  • We kindly request you leave your tech devices outside of the practice rooms and stored in the change room.
  • Please limit your use in the change rooms to protect everyone’s privacy and to create a peaceful space for all!

Hydration & Rest

Hydration

  • Hydration is critically important in hot yoga because of the heat and the volume of sweat the body loses during practice. Hydrate pre, during and post class; electrolytes added to your water can help.

Rest

  • If at any point during your practice you feel like you need to take a break, rest by finding stillness and take a few deeper breaths, take childs pose or lay on your back in corpse pose, for as long as you need to.
  • Try and stay in the practice room if you can.

Props & Support

  • Our practice spaces are equipped with props like mirrors, blocks, straps, and bolsters.
  • Props can elevate and significantly improve comfort, alignment, and accessibility for various yoga poses.
  • Teachers may offer hands on assistance to support you in your practice. Our default will always be no hands out of respect for you and your space, unless you indicate otherwise.

Studio Amenities

Changing Rooms

  • Our studio is fully equipped with change rooms, an ADA-accessible bathroom, showers, blow-dryers and lockers.
  • All showers are stocked with body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
  • Our keyless lockers provide a secure place to store your belongings, as personal items are not permitted in the practice rooms.
