Michelle Phillips

Teacher

Michelle came to yoga after her Active Release Therapist recommended it to help heal a repetitive strain injury she developed after years of working long hours. She took her first Modo class in January 2008 and remembers feeling so relaxed, peaceful and happy. She was hooked and she started practicing regularly.

She then completed Modo training in July 2009, followed by Yin training in August 2011 and Restorative training in May 2012. She’s attended many “Hands-On Adjustment” workshops and continues to learn from teachers, students and especially life. People who knew her before my yoga journey will tell you she’s a completely different person now; lighter, softer, happier. These are the deeper gifts she’s received through her practice.

More recently, she fell in love with Pilates and completed her mat training in February 2023. Pilates is so much fun but also the perfect complementary practice. Don’t be surprised if you find your yoga practice getting stronger!

Accessibility resonates strongly with her. When you come to class, she wants you to feel welcomed, included, and to feel like you can access the practice regardless of your physical, mental or spiritual starting point. She loves using blocks, straps, bands, balls, weights; whatever props are available. She’s a big fan of the “how” so she’s a technical teacher but she likes to have fun! You won’t find her wearing her serious face and she’s been known to crack the odd joke.

She practices because of her passion for healthy living from the inside out. She teaches to help others transform into the best versions of themselves. Come out to class. She’ll meet you where you begin.
