Lindsey Matheis discovered the infinitely deep well of yoga in 2009 as she was beginning her career in dance and quickly began practicing daily. What began as a gentle recovery and preparation practice for long days in the studio developed into a richly layered oasis where she continues to excavate the wonders of living in this vessel. Yoga has brought her both many teachings and un-learnings: a gateway into a community that calls us back over and over to the curious mind, the body that breathes, and an available, surrendered heart full of limitless compassion. Modo Yoga has been her yoga home since 2015, first in LA and now in NYC. As a lifelong student of meditation, anatomy, biopsychosocial sciences, and somatic healing, she finds great joy sharing all she finds. The cornerstone to her teaching approach is meeting people exactly as they are. She holds the container of studio space in a way that balances body literacy as empowerment and sweaty rigor inside of creative play.
Lindsey received her 200hr YTT from Modo and her meditation teacher training from MNDFL. A career dancer and choreographer, she has worked with companies such as Sleep No More, Gibney Dance Company, BODYTRAFFIC, NW Dance Project, Opera Philadelphia, Opera Omaha, NVE Experience Agency, Sacramento Ballet, among other companies. She enjoys freelancing as well – every small project is a special container for connection and storytelling. Lindsey is also a co-producer for OddKnock Productions. Her choreography has been commissioned and presented by SALT Contemporary Dance, Missouri Contemporary Ballet, Chop Shop, Men in Dance, and the Experimental Film Festival. In addition, she produced three independent dance festivals in Portland, Oregon, with the mission of giving a platform to young dancemakers. She is currently at Pacific College studying massage therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine and fosters a communal living space for artists.
