Jennifer, originally from Vancouver, came to NYC in late 2013, by way of Toronto.
Jennifer doesn’t quite remember her first yoga class. She had taken many, here and there, over the years. Yoga was OK but she was never hooked. That was until she discovered Modo (then known as Moksha) nearly 18 years ago now. She practiced 2 or 3 times a week for a year or so and thought that was enough. Then she did her first 30 day challenge and discovered the world of daily practice. Her life was forever changed. From there she has explored various forms of vinyasa yoga. Ashtanga holds a special place in her heart.
In 2015 she travelled to Nicaragua for a month-long yoga teacher training. She went mainly to deepen her understanding of the practice (and to spend a month at the beach), not with the intention of teaching. But one thing led to another and she found herself teaching at Modo Yoga NYC and she loved it!
Jennifer has seen first hand how yoga can help with many physical and mental challenges including pregnancy, postpartum recovery, multiple surgeries, radiation and now chemotherapy.
Jennifer’s approach to yoga is to link the physical and mental body in an approachable and methodical way. As a retired scientist, with a Master’s in Biochemistry, she can’t help but be fairly analytical in her practice and teaching. She uses posture analysis as a way to focus the mind and bring a calm strength to the practice.
In addition to teaching yoga, Jennifer is a wife, mom to two little girls and a lifestyle photographer.
