Yin/Hatha/Prenatal Instructor

Yoga has always and will always be a part of my life. My mom practiced Yoga while she was pregnant with me and continued to take me to classes with her at her instructor (Gerda Krebs) house when I was a baby where I would watch and play in the corner. As I grew up I continued to “Play” Yoga. I would watch my mom’s video tapes and follow along. When my friends came over I used to love getting them to lie down on the floor and guide them through the restorative posture Savasana, still a favourite. I took my first professional classes in 2002 while I was attending Esthetics school across the hall. When I became a full time Esthetician, I struggled with back pain, tendonitis, etc. and I realized very quickly that I needed to do more to take care of my body so I that I could continue to live my life at an optimum level – Yoga was my answer, and if it was for me, then maybe it could be for others as well. . .

In 2007 I decided to make my dream of becoming a Yoga Instructor a reality, so I went on google and hopped on a plane to Mexico, where I lived in a tent on a beach for a month and obtained my first 200hr Yoga Teacher certification through Yandara Yoga Institute. This is where I discovered the many other benefits yoga has to offer not only physically, but mentally and spiritually. Since then I have gained nearly 500 Yoga Alliance recognized hours in a variety of teaching styles including Hatha, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Flow, and Yin. I have a particular love for the quieter restorative practices such as Yin, and my Iyengar background has taught me the foundations of proper alignment and the use of props. I have a passion for travel and take my mat with me everywhere. Thai Massage is something I picked up along the way and I believe is the perfect compliment to my practice. Personally, my favourite time to practice has always been in hot humid climates… if only I could experience that at home in Sherwood Park… and then came MODO and Jenny – a match made by the Universe for sure! The heat focuses my mind, purifies my body, and lifts my soul. Every opportunity I have to come to my mat is a blessing. Yoga saved my life in so many ways and continues to do so. I am a happier, healthier, more positive person to be around because of it. It taught me to Love myself and life unconditionally; as a result I am now more open to give and receive Love. Teaching makes me so happy, and I am greatful every incredible day for the opportunity to share the Love.
