Yuka Shimizu


Striving to do more than just improving your downward dog, Yuka’s philosophy centres on enhancing functional movement for life-long mobility. A certified yoga instructor and practitioner for over a decade, Yuka combines Integrated Movement therapy, as created by Danielle Bélec-van Zeyl of Second Wind Pilates Plus®, and Ashtanga with Iyengar yoga alignment, as introduced by internationally recognized instructor Maty Ezraty. Yuka currently practices Ashtanga yoga with Maty, seasonally training in the U.S. with the founder of YogaWorks and one of the first Westerners to study under Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and B. K. S. Iyengar. Yuka is dedicated to her practice, having recently completed a 200 hour Yoga Works® teacher training under the tutelage of Maty, furthering her previously completed 100 hour training with Maty, 300 hour training with Ron Reid of the Downward Dog Yoga Centre in Toronto. Yuka is a Certified Second Wind Pilates Plus® Mat Instructor, a Certified Integrated Movement Therapies (IMT)® Practitioner through Second Wind®, a Certified Second Wind® Pilates Plus®  Reformer Instructor, a Certified Second Wind® Pilates Plus®  Cadillac Instructor, a nutritional consultant (RHN), and a recipient of the Relax and Renew trainer certification of Judith Hanson Lasater, Yuka also completed Myofascial compression techniques, GRID foam Rolling foundation course with Trigger Point performance.  Past training and workshops include studying with Nikki Doane, Eddie Modestini,  Matthew Sweeney, Annie Carpenter , Leslie Kaminoff , Carrie Owerko , Marla Apt and Richard Freeman. Yuka’s focus on movement therapy allows her students to improve flexibility, achieve proper alignment, and strike a harmonious mind/body balance.
