FAQ

What is Modo Yoga community all about?

Modo Yoga is a community of independent eco-conscious hot yoga studios, guided by our 6 Pillars, united by our love for yoga, and dedicated to creating a more peaceful and sustainable world. We aim to be a positive space to welcome everyone.

What is Modo Yoga?

All Modo Yoga classes are built on the foundation of our Modo series – a dynamic system of postures and breathing exercises specifically designed to be practiced in the heat. Modo classes are accessible to all, from beginners to advanced students. A typical Modo class will have around 40 postures. Each class is intended to open, strengthen and relax the entire body.

How hot is Modo Yoga?

Modo classes are headed to around 37-40 degrees celsius with about 40% - 50% humidity. External weather conditions and the number of students in the class can have an effect on the temperature inside the room. If you’ve never practiced hot yoga before it might feel quite hot during your first class, but over time, your body will acclimatize to the heat. Come well-hydrated before attending class, move through each class at your own pace, and take rest and drink water as often as needed. You got this!

What is the minimum age policy to attend classes at the studio?

Our minimum age to attend classes at this studio location is 16 years and up unaccompanied by an adult [parent or guardian]. Ages 16 - 17 will require parental/guardian consent sent by email to info@modoyogastjohns.com in advance of the first class attended.

Is Modo yoga a cardio workout?

Yup, it sure is! But it's equally a work "in" - you'll see!

I'm the least flexible person in the entire world...

We've definitely heard that before! Being the least flexible person in the entire world is the best reason to try a Modo Yoga class. But really, don’t worry if you can't touch your toes or balance on one foot – flexibility and balance will come with time. You don’t have to be flexible to try yoga. Dive in and reap the benefits of a regular Modo practice with our Intro Month - 30 unlimited days for $59!

What are some of the benefits of yoga?

Yoga builds strength and flexibility. It also makes us more aware of our breath, which ultimately helps to relax and calm the body and mind. People who practice regularly often notice that they are happier, have better focus, and are more able to handle the stresses of everyday life.

What should I wear?

Wear something that you feel comfortable in that is easy to move around in. You will probably sweat a lot, so lightweight, breathable materials that will absorb sweat and dry quickly are best. Shorts or leggings, a tee-shirt or a tank top are all great options.

What should I bring?

Bring a yoga mat, a large towel and a filled water bottle for class. In case you forget your own water bottle, you can purchase a Modo Mason Jar for $5 to keep. We offer mat and towel rentals for $3 each or ask about our unlimited rental service. If you walk/bike/run to the studio, your mat rental is on us! Just let us know when you arrive for class. For your very first class, your rentals are on us :)

How long are Modo Yoga classes?

Modo Yoga classes 45, 60, 75 or 90 minutes long. We have a variety of classes at various lengths, so please check the schedule to see what works for you! Ensure you sign up for a class time that you can commit to attending the full duration of the class. We do not allow students to leave class early or arrive late.

What other class styles are offered?

In addition to Modo hot yoga classes, we offer a variety of class styles daily in reduced heat, including Yin, Vinyasa and some hybrid classes. As well, we offer 2 x weekly free community guided meditation classes in our non-heated room. We have something for everyone! Read all about the class styles we offer under About - Class Types.

I'm running late for class...

The door will lock a maximum of 3 minutes before class start time. It is best to aim to arrive at least 5 minutes before class start time. To provide a peaceful experience for all and to be respectful of everyone's time, we start and end classes on time. We don't allow latecomers to attend once the class has started.

Where do I park?

There is plenty of on-street meter parking available close to the studio along: Duckworth St., Water St. [some 2-hour free parking spots along Water St. East], and 4-hour parking along Harbour Drive - all free after 6pm and on weekends. Access to a small private parking lot on Duckworth (across from the studio) is usually open for public use after 5:30pm on weekdays and all hours on weekends. A private parking lot on the corner of Prescott and Duckworth is usually open for public use after 5pm on weekdays and all hours on weekends. You can view more city parking information here: https://www.downtownstjohns.com/live/downtown-parking

What happens if a class is cancelled?

Any class cancellations, eg. due to inclement weather, are made up to a minimum of 1-hour before class time. When a class is cancelled: All pre-registered participants will receive an email class cancellation notification; The class will show as cancelled on our website and the class will no longer show on the Modo Yoga app; We post cancellations notices in our stories on our Facebook and Instagram sites.
