Studio Guidelines

Our aim is to create a grounding, supportive space for as many students as possible in every class we offer. We believe that cultivating a peaceful studio environment—an oasis from the busyness of everyday life—lies in the details. Please take a moment to read our studio guidelines, which help cultivate mindful habits for all to enjoy this space together.

Community Agreements

Community At Our Core

Modo Yoga SJ works to build a community of trust, peace, and respect. To do so, we strive to practice nonviolence (Ahimsa) in all our communications and interactions at the studio. We believe yoga is for every body and do not tolerate discrimination of any kind based on size, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, ability or any other aspects of identity.

Booking Policies

Pre-Registration

Yoga classes: booking opens 7 days in advance for each class.

Pilates classes: booking opens at 9am 7 days in advance of class.

You can book online using the Modo Yoga App or website.

We save 5 walk-in spaces in every class hosted in the hot room, available first-come-first-serve. If class is full, or you did not make it off the waitlist, when the studio doors opens 30 minutes before class for sign-in, you can always come early and try to get a walk-in space.

While walk-ins are welcome, pre-registration is encouraged to secure a space in class.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel your class booking online or from your Modo Yoga app up to 2 hours before class without any penalty. Please note that we do not accept phone or email cancellations.

After the 2-hour window a late cancelation or no-show will result in the following charges:

Members who late cancel (cancel within 2 hours of class) will be charged a $10 late cancellation fee.

Members who are no-shows (do not cancel and do not check-in for class) will receive a $10 no-show fee.

Class Card or Drop-In students will forfeit their credit for both late cancellations and no-shows but will not be charged any additional fees.

For workshops or series, we require at least 24 hours cancellation notice in advance of the workshop or series. With 24 hours notice or more, you will receive credit on your account for the value of that workshop/series class. With less than 24 hours notice or a no-show, no credit is given and you forfeit the fee for the workshop/class.

In the case of a rare emergency or something reasonable beyond your control happens that prevents you from attending your class booking, do not late cancel. Instead please contact us by phone or email to let us know and we’ll manage your cancellation.

Waitlist

When a class appears full, you may add yourself to the waitlist. Waitlists always move, especially on the day of class leading up to the 2 hours before class. Treat your waitlist spot like a class booking.

When a cancellation is made, the first name on the waitlist is automatically added to the class with a confirmed space. You are responsible for checking your waitlist spot for movement on your Modo Yoga app. If you are signed up for email notifications, you will receive an email as soon as you are moved off the waitlist. This will happen up until 2 hours before class.

Once you are added to the class from the waitlist, you are responsible for attending or cancelling like any other reservation.

If you are on the waitlist and know you do not plan to come to class, please remove yourself from the waitlist.

The waitlist is voided 2 hours before each class, which means any available spaces can be booked by anyone. To get a space 2 hours before class, remove yourself from the waitlist, then book your space in class.

We save 5 walk-in spaces in every class hosted in the hot room, first-come-first-serve. If class is full [and you did not make it off the waitlist], when the studio doors open 30 minutes before classes for sign-in, you can always come early and try to get a walk-in space.

Late Arrivals

To ensure a safe and positive class experience for everyone, we do not permit students to enter late for class.

Please make every effort to arrive at least 5-10 minutes early. The door may be locked up to 3 minutes before class begins.

5 minutes before class, any student not present may lose their reserved spot to students present at the studio waiting to get into the class.

To avoid losing your spot and/or being charged a no-show penalty, arrive on time and ready to go.

Honour the Class Duration

Our class schedule shows the duration of each class to help you plan which classes to attend that work best for your time commitment. We ask that you commit to attending the full duration of the class as it’s scheduled.

The instructor will let you know when the class is over, and we ask you please leave quietly to not disturb others.

Weather Cancellation Policy

Any class cancellations due to inclement weather are made up to a minimum of 1-hour before class starts. When a class is cancelled:

1 – All pre-registered participants will receive an email class cancellation notification – ask us how to opt-in if you’re not already getting email notifications.

2 – The class will show as cancelled on our website and on the Modo Yoga app.

3 – We post all class cancellations in our stories on our Instagram and Facebook social media sites. Follow us to ensure you see live updates.

Studio Etiquette

Silent Practice Rooms

For all Yoga classes, please respect our silence is golden policy and leave all conversations, even whispering, outside the hot room.

Before and after class is a special time that students use to meditate, decompress, and integrate their practice for the rest of the day. Please be mindful and move quietly throughout the space. Thank you for your efforts to provide a peaceful experience for all.

Clutter-Free Spaces

Please leave all your personal belongings in the change rooms.

Only your water bottle, yoga mat, practice towel and any props you’d like to use for class are permitted into the practice room. For safety reasons, we ask that no other belongings be brought into the practice rooms.

Phone & Tech-Free Hot Rooms

Our practice rooms are free from distractions and technology.

Please leave your phone, pager or any electronic device in the change room so the practice room remains a phone and tech-free space. If you wear a smartwatch, it is to be put silent with notifications turned off.

Thank you for understanding we do not make individual exceptions.

Scent-Free Space

Please do not arrive to class wearing scented products and please do not use scented products in the change rooms to respect those with severe scent allergies.

Mat Placement

Please be mindful of how and where you quietly place your mat so there is enough space for everyone. Read these tips for how to set up your mat according to class style.

All classes listed with Modo in the class name, mats are set up to face the mirrors with 4 rows:
1 – along the back cedar wall/windows
2 – between the back pillars
3 – behind the front pillars
4 – in front along the mirrors

For all non-Modo style classes, the room is divided between the two middle pillars with 3 rows on either side of the room facing toward the centre of the room [a total of 6 rows]:
1 – along the side grey walls facing the centre
2 – between the pillars facing the centre
3 – just behind the centre pillars facing the centre—please leave space where the instructor has their mat set up between the two middle room pillars.

Please set up close to other mats to make room for all and to minimize requests from instructors to move your mat. Your kindness and support are appreciated, especially during busier classes.

Change Room Etiquette

To ensure a respectful and safe environment for all, we ask that you refrain from taking selfies or using your phone in the change rooms. This policy helps us maintain privacy and comfort for everyone. You may use your phone in our lobby community area or ideally, outside of the studio.

Common Area Etiquette

We strive to create a safe and welcoming space for all. To respect everyone’s journey, we ask that personal discussions be kept for private settings. Let’s support each other by fostering a peaceful atmosphere.
