Yellow Martin

Teacher

Yellow first attended Modo Yoga in 2015 while completing her undergraduate degree at Memorial University. She often attended the Friday night karma classes as a break from her studies; a chance to move her body and settle her brain. Yellow found she was drawn to the MYSJ community and the studio quickly became her home away from home.

In 2017, she joined the EE program where she occupied the Sunday afternoon shift until taking the Online Modo Teacher Training in 2021. A true lover of learning, Yellow soon after completed her Modo Calm Teacher Training in April of 2022 under Adam Stonebraker to strengthen her knowledge, further her understanding of the benefits of the practice, and bring a deeper sense of calm to her classes.

Infusing her outside experience as a classical pianist with her teaching, Yellow brings curated playlists to the hot room that ebb and flow with the postures to foster fluid and intentional movement. As a neuroscientist, Yellow also sprinkles her knowledge of the brain and physiology into her yoga classes to provide students with an understanding of their bodily responses to varying stimuli, in hopes of fostering a deeper connection with oneself.

Outside of the studio, Yellow pursues scientific endeavours through her research on sex differences present in mental health as well as neurological and developmental disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, autism, and schizophrenia. She can also be found chasing her two huskies Lupin and Baloo through the city on various adventures, cuddling her mouse Pepper, or planning her next getaway!
