The Importance of Celebrating Milestones

Congratulations challengers, you made it through the 30 day challenge! What a great way to kick off the holiday season! I’m sure this journey has been different for each and everyone one of you, but before you dive in to your next list of things to tackle or the next challenge to take on, remember to take a step back, pause, and to reflect on what you have just accomplished.

There’s one important thing we tend to forget once we reach our goals. We don’t always take the time to celebrate our achievements and give ourselves a good pat on the shoulder. Instead, we continue on without looking back, searching for our next target. Not only does this become a never ending loop, it can make us feel overwhelmed and that we aren’t getting where we think we need to be.

I once had a professor explain the importance of celebrating milestones and it is something that I continue to turn to in my own studies, projects, and career. You must take the time to reap in the benefits of having accomplished something you set out to do. We were told to engage in social activities as a team to reflect on progress and feel refreshed moving forward. Another key takeaway was to not only celebrate the completion of a project, but to celebrate the little wins along the way. This lesson is applicable to so many aspects of life, and especially relevant to our yoga journey.

Now that you have reached the end of this 30 day challenge, take a moment to reflect on the past 4 weeks. Did you improve a certain asana? Did you move deeper into your practice? Did you put a sticker down more often than not? Did you manage to complete all 30 days? Whatever your experience was, give yourself a moment and thank yourself for dedicating the time and energy to this personal commitment.

The great thing is that by taking this time to reflect and celebrate, you will notice that you will start your next challenge with more awareness and intention. When you acknowledge what you have accomplished, something pretty spectacular happens: you feel good about it! And we need more of those feel good vibes all around.
