Darren Brooks

After an awkward introduction to adulthood catalyzed by a rare neurological disorder (resulting in a few wheelchair bound months and a compromised immune system lasting years), I started practicing at Moksha Yoga Hamilton (Dundas) in 2014 as well as becoming a part of the energy exchange program (ambassador). The practice and community involvement resulted in profound healing and helped guide me down an increasingly more interesting path of internal investigation and striving to move more comfortably, more efficiently, in my body, in all directions.

In December 2021 I lived one of my dreams completing the 200 hour “awakenings immersive” YTT in Costa Rica and since then have been doing my best to share my practices which have been staples in my own journey toward the healthiest mind and body possible.

I love the challenge of tricky asana and all the moving parts that are necessary to make them all possible while the mobility, stability, and flexibility that results keeps me relatively in tact for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (and life in general). That being said, seated meditation, the practice of stillness, and presence have been equally important when it comes to my prescription for well being, the ability to cope with the chaos life can throw at me.

After the completion of a Mohawk College certificate in councelling techniques, a few mindfulness training courses, and the experience gathered from meditation retreats (including two 10 day Vipassanas), it is a great honour having the opportunity to assist others in the obsrevation of their thoughts, emotions, and different states of consciousness.

I originally went to school for Health, Fitness, and Wellness, work currently as a Personal Trainer (weight lifting is undeniably valuable) I am finding that my sessions become more and more yoga oriented as the years go by!
