A Message from Our Co-Founder, Jess Robertson

Big congrats on your interest in Deepening Your Practice! Taking this training is a huge step toward self renewal and transformative learning, and while the Level 1 Modo Yoga teacher training DOES provide you with the tools needed to teach yoga, it’s also so much more than that.  Read on, and reach out to teachertraining@modoyoga.com with any questions.

The MYTT is offered in two complete parts:

MODULE 1: Deepen Your Practice
100 hours

This module is for anyone looking to take their yoga practice to the next level. It is a pre-requisite for Module 2: Learn To Teach, which will certify you as a Modo Yoga teacher.

MODULE 2: Learn To Teach
100 hours

This module is all about learning to lead. Anyone looking to find their voice through teaching yoga—or in any other capacity—is welcome. Completion of this module will certify you as a Modo Yoga Teacher.

WHAT IS DEEPEN YOUR PRACTICE?

Leading yoga is a transferable skill. What we’ve found after 17 years of offering this training, is that when you find your voice as a yoga teacher, you find your voice in many other areas of your life as well. Plus, we just have a bunch of fun doing it! But for real, the course material in Deepen Your Practice guides participants through a journey of self discovery through: on demand (i.e. on your own schedule) lectures, live Q & A sessions with all teacher training faculty, and live yoga asana (posture) classes. The course also guides participants through prompts for self reflection and goal setting.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN DURING THIS MODULE

This module is all about building a practice of self inquiry and self reflection. The intention behind this is to help plant the seeds for lifelong learning, curiosity and growth. The course content includes: lectures that teach students about brain science and yoga, the history and philosophical roots of yoga, the underpinnings of the 6 Pillars of Modo Yoga, and an introduction to mindfulness, mindfulness practices for every day life, dismantling racism and oppression, and deepening the experience of Savasana.

What is the format of Module 2, and what will I learn?

Module 2: Learn To Teach will take place online over the course of six weekends, or as a 12-day online intensive.

In this module, you will learn the skills required to lead group yoga classes. The lessons are very practical and hands on, and you must attend all sessions live in order to graduate.

In this module you will explore the following content:

PRACTICE TEACHING WITH EZMERALDA STAVROFF

This is where you actually teach asana classes as a group and get personalized feedback on your teaching. You will cover best practices for language, cues, intention setting, and  class themes.

POSTURE WORKSHOP WITH ROBI MCKENNA

In this lecture series we take the time to break down every pose in the Modo sequence.   You will learn a deeper understanding of each asana exploring the anatomy, the benefits and, if applicable, it’s origin story in the roots of yoga philosophy.

BASIC ANATOMY WITH KARL NOTARGIOVANNI

In this lecture you explore under the skin and become more comfortable with anatomical terms. You will learn the bones and muscles that are most relevant in the context of yoga and also a brief overview of the systems of the body.

FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY WITH JULIA COWAN

Building on the foundation from Basic Anatomy, this lecture offers you a deeper dive into how your body moves.  You will practice posture variations with the intention to observe, from experience, how the experience of physical asana differs from person to person.

REAL WORLD TEACHING WITH SARAH FOSSEN AND SOPHIE MALOUIN

In this lecture you will learn the more practical components of being a yoga instructor.  We offer good practice tips for teaching in a studio environment, teaching online and continuing to practice Yoga off the mat as you step into the role of Teacher.

Do I HAVE to take both modules?

No. Module 1 can be taken on its own, and is available to anyone!

But, if your ultimate goal is to become a Yoga teacher, you must also take Module 2.

Module 1 is a prerequisite for Module 2.

Am I guaranteed a teaching position after I complete both modules of the teacher training?

No.

The completion of the Modo Yoga Level 1 teacher training does not guarantee you a teaching position at your local Modo Yoga Studio.

If you are interested in teaching at your local Modo Yoga Studio, we strongly recommend that you check in with your local studio owner to see what opportunities (if any) are available.

With that being said, we empower trainees throughout the training to create their own teaching opportunities as an independent yoga teacher.

What online platform will the Teacher Training take place on?

Module 1: Deepen Your Practice

This module will be hosted on Zoom and The Flame

Zoom: This is where our live yoga classes and live Q&A sessions will take place. These live sessions will be fun and interactive!

The Flame: This online portal acts as a community hub with lecture videos, interactive assignments, a live forum with fellow trainees, additional resources and more!

Module 2: Learn To Teach

This module will take place entirely on Zoom.

Because of the hands on nature of this module, it is best to be live and face to face. Some sessions will be more of a lecture format, but most of your time will be spent in smaller groups, where you’ll have the opportunity to lead group classes and explore anatomy concepts with your fellow students, under the guidance of our experienced faculty for support.

All live sessions are mandatory.

Is tech support available for this training?

We are proud to offer our training on a user friendly platform. And, we also understand that people have varying levels of technological abilities. If you need the support, we are happy to help!

Our Teacher Training Manager, Sarah, and the Teacher Support Coordinator, Sophie, are online Monday-Friday from 9am – 5pm EST to offer you tech support through email or over the phone.

Is the Modo Yoga Teacher Training certified by the Yoga Alliance?

The successful completion of both Module 1: Deepen Your Practice and Module 2: Learn to Teach will qualify you to be a 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher.

If you want to be certified by Yoga Alliance you will need to apply directly with them.

Becoming certified by Yoga Alliance is optional, and is not a requirement to be a Modo Yoga Teacher.
